Who are you and where are you from?

Hi, I am Adreanna General Manager of Park Plaza Leeds. I joined the hotel world in Leeds 12 years ago and after gaining my General Manager promotion in London, it gives me great pleasure to come back to the city where it all began for me.

Why hospitality? And what gets you up in the morning?

My first ever job was as a pot wash in the local pub, with a quick progression to chief starter and dessert plater. I realised I was probably better Front Of House so made the transition and never looked back. I learnt from an early stage that there are so many opportunities in hospitality and this has led to my passion for developing the teams around me. What I love about hotels is there is such a diverse workforce, each with a different mindset of how they want to progress in the industry. I feel privileged that in my role I can play a part in my teams learning, development and career progression.

What I love about hotels is that I enjoy that every day is different, and I absolutely love meeting people. I enjoy getting out of bed every morning with the thoughts and the buzz of securing business and making a difference, and I love to hear those words “please send me the contract”.

Greatest inspiration?

Early in my role as Operations Manager and I attended seminar for Inspirational Women In Leadership. This inspired and motivated me that it is possible to have both family and a successful career as a female. I have been very fortunate to work with many inspirational leaders who have supported me having my own family whilst also striving to be a General Manager. I am proud that my executive team is made up of four female inspirational leaders.

Best place to visit in Leeds?

I love going to First Direct Arena and I am a firm believer that this is the best place to visit in Leeds. I have had so many happy memories with friends and family from an array of music concerts, comedy gigs and not forgetting the family favourite Disney on Ice.

What advice would you give your younger self just starting-out?

Early in my hospitality career a General Manager told me that I had the potential of being a General Manager one day. If I could go back and give any advice to me 10 years ago I would tell myself to have more confidence and not be so hard on myself on the challenging days because one day it will pay off and I will get my goal of becoming a General Manager.
